West Vancouver

Located along the North Shore, West Vancouver is home to some of Vancouver's most sought after view home properties. Situated along the mountain side, West Van overlooks Downtown, Kitsilano, West Point Grey, and UBC from across the water. Much of West Vancouver is made up of residential houses, with a few apartment complexes along the waterfront in the Ambleside area.

West Vancouver was originally established as a cottage area before the Lions Gate Bridge was built. Residents of Vancouver would go by boat to either camp or picnic on this side of the water. When the Bridge was built in 1938, residents flooded to this commercial side of the city. From 1945 to 1975, West Vancouver became a centre for innovative residential design. Some of Canada's most famous architects and designers like Arthur Erikson, Ron Thom, Charles Edward Pratt, and more came to the area to build residential houses. These houses were inspired by the dramatic landscape of the area and the designs reflected the city through their choice of building materials. West Vancouver's innovative homes became known as the 'West Coast Style'.
